About this exercise

A bodyweight pulling movement performed on gymnastic rings where you row the rings toward your face, targeting the rear deltoids and upper traps. The free-moving rings allow natural wrist rotation and challenge shoulder stability throughout the pull.

How to Perform

  • Set gymnastic rings at roughly head height and grip them with palms facing each other or slightly inward
  • Lean back to a comfortable angle, arms extended, body straight
  • Brace your core and keep your body rigid throughout the movement
  • Pull the rings toward your face by driving your elbows back and out to the sides
  • Externally rotate your shoulders so your hands finish beside your ears, pinkies pointing toward the ceiling
  • Squeeze the rear delts and upper traps at the top of the movement
  • Slowly return to the starting position with control
