About this exercise

The Ring Chest Fly is an advanced bodyweight chest exercise performed on gymnastic rings, requiring significant pectoral strength and shoulder stability. Starting from a push-up position, you lower your chest by spreading the rings outward and then squeeze them back together, placing the chest under a deep stretch and contraction. Ring instability increases muscle activation compared to a standard cable or dumbbell fly.

How to Perform

  • Set gymnastic rings at a low position and grip one ring in each hand with a neutral or slightly pronated grip
  • Assume a push-up position with your arms extended below your shoulders, body forming a straight line
  • Brace your core and keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout the movement
  • Slowly spread the rings outward and downward, lowering your chest toward the floor
  • Stop when you feel a deep stretch in your chest, keeping your hips level
  • Squeeze your pecs to pull the rings back together until your hands meet below your chest
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
