About this exercise

The Ring Archer Dip is a unilateral dipping variation on gymnastic rings where the working arm performs the dip while the opposite arm extends out to the side for assistance and stability, resembling an archer's pose. It develops unilateral triceps and chest strength while demanding significant ring control.

How to Perform

  • Start in a ring support position with arms extended, rings held at hip width
  • Lower into a dip by bending the working arm while simultaneously extending the opposite arm straight out to the side
  • Descend until the working elbow reaches roughly 90 degrees
  • Keep the body upright and the extended arm relatively straight with slight elbow bend
  • Press through the working arm to return to the starting position, drawing the extended arm back in
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other arm
  • Keep the movement controlled throughout to manage ring instability
