Quick Sumo Squat

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Quick Sumo Squat.

EasyGlutesQuadriceps

About this exercise

An explosive bodyweight sumo squat performed at speed, combining the wide-stance hip and inner-thigh recruitment of a sumo squat with a fast, rhythmic tempo to build lower-body endurance and power. The wider stance emphasises the adductors and glutes more than a standard squat. It can be used in conditioning circuits or as a warm-up drill.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet wider than shoulder-width apart and toes turned out at roughly 45 degrees
  • Place your hands in front of your chest or on your hips for balance
  • Brace your core and quickly lower your hips toward the floor by bending your knees
  • Descend until your thighs are at least parallel to the ground, keeping your chest upright
  • Drive through your heels and inner thighs to stand up explosively
  • Complete the movement fully before immediately beginning the next repetition
  • Maintain a fast, controlled rhythm throughout the set
