About this exercise

The Punch Step Forward is a plyometric conditioning drill that combines a forward lunge step with a cross-body punch. It develops lower-body power, coordination, and cardiovascular endurance simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Stand in an athletic stance with feet hip-width apart and hands in a loose guard position
  • Step forward with one foot, lowering into a slight lunge position
  • Simultaneously drive the opposite arm forward in a punching motion
  • Push off the front foot and return to the starting stance
  • Alternate the stepping leg and punching arm with each repetition
  • Maintain an upright torso and keep your core braced throughout
  • Move at a controlled pace, focusing on coordination before increasing speed
