About this exercise

The Pulse Up is a bodyweight core exercise performed lying on your back. You lift your legs vertically and use your lower abs to pulse your hips off the floor in small, controlled upward thrusts, keeping tension on the abs throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back with arms at your sides, palms facing down
  • Raise your legs straight up to a vertical position, perpendicular to the floor
  • Engage your core and press your lower back into the floor
  • Contract your abs to lift your hips and legs straight up toward the ceiling
  • Lower your hips back down in a controlled manner without letting your legs drop
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps

About the Pulse Up

The Pulse Up is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
