About this exercise

The Pulse Row is a back exercise performed by doing short, rapid pulsing movements at the peak contraction of a row. Using a resistance band, the exercise keeps constant tension on the lats and upper back through a reduced range of motion, making it effective for building muscle endurance and the mind-muscle connection.

How to Perform

  • Anchor a resistance band at mid-torso height and stand or sit facing the anchor point
  • Grasp the band with both hands and pull back to the fully rowed position with elbows behind your body
  • From this contracted position, perform small, controlled pulsing movements, moving just a few centimeters in and out
  • Keep your back straight and shoulders down throughout
  • Squeeze your lats with each pulse
  • Complete all reps before releasing tension
