About this exercise

The plate pinch is a grip-strength exercise where you pinch one or more weight plates between your fingers and thumb, holding them for time or performing controlled lifts. It directly targets the muscles of the forearms and fingers responsible for crushing and pinching grip, making it a valuable accessory for powerlifting, strongman, and functional training.

How to Perform

  • Select one or two smooth weight plates of appropriate weight and hold them vertically with one or both hands, pinching the rim between your fingers and thumb
  • Stand tall with your arm(s) at your side and brace your core
  • Squeeze the plates firmly to prevent them from slipping, engaging the forearms fully
  • Hold for the target duration or perform controlled repetitions of lifting and lowering the plates
  • Release with control and rest before the next set
