About this exercise

The plank thigh tap is a core stability exercise performed in a high plank position where you alternately reach one hand underneath your body to tap the opposite thigh. The anti-rotation challenge forces your core and shoulders to work harder to keep the hips level and prevent twisting.

How to Perform

  • Start in a high plank position with hands under your shoulders and body forming a straight line from head to heels
  • Engage your core and squeeze your glutes to stabilise your hips
  • Lift your right hand off the floor and reach under your body to tap your left thigh
  • Return your right hand to the floor and repeat with the left hand tapping the right thigh
  • Keep your hips as level as possible and resist the urge to rotate
  • Continue alternating at a controlled pace
