About this exercise

The plank side walk is a core stability exercise performed in a high plank position, where you move laterally by stepping hands and feet together to one side and then the other. It challenges the abs, core, and shoulders while adding a dynamic element to the traditional plank.

How to Perform

  • Start in a high plank position with hands directly under your shoulders, body forming a straight line from head to heels
  • Brace your core, squeeze your glutes, and keep your hips level throughout the movement
  • Step your right hand and right foot out to the right simultaneously
  • Follow with your left hand and left foot to bring them back to shoulder-width apart
  • Continue walking to the right for the prescribed number of steps, then reverse direction and walk to the left
  • Avoid letting your hips rotate or sag as you move
  • Keep a controlled pace and maintain tension in your core at all times
