EasyHamstrings

About this exercise

A standing hamstring and posterior chain stretch where you fold forward from the hips and reach toward the floor with straight legs. Gravity assists the stretch, making it a comfortable and accessible way to improve hamstring flexibility. The pike position is also used as a preparatory stretch before deadlifts, swings, and sprint work.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet together or hip-width apart and arms relaxed at your sides
  • Hinge forward at the hips, keeping your knees straight or very slightly soft
  • Allow the upper body to hang toward the floor and reach your hands as far down as possible
  • Relax the neck and let the head hang heavy
  • Breathe slowly — with each exhale, allow the torso to sink a little deeper toward the floor
  • Hold for the prescribed duration, then slowly roll back up to standing one vertebra at a time
