About this exercise

The Mountain Climber Kickout builds on the classic mountain climber by adding a lateral kickout after each knee drive, increasing oblique engagement and hip mobility demands. The exercise challenges core stability, cardiovascular endurance, and lower-body coordination simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Begin in a high plank position with arms straight and hands under your shoulders
  • Drive your right knee in toward your chest as in a standard mountain climber
  • Instead of returning the foot straight back, kick your right leg out to the side
  • Bring the leg back to plank and repeat the pattern on the left leg
  • Keep your hips level and core braced throughout the movement
  • Alternate sides in a controlled, continuous rhythm for the desired number of repetitions
