About this exercise

The mountain climber cross is a high-intensity bodyweight exercise that adds a cross-body rotational drive to the classic mountain climber, intensifying oblique engagement while maintaining the cardiovascular demand. Each rep drives the knee diagonally under the body toward the opposite elbow, challenging the abs, obliques, and shoulder stabilizers simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Begin in a high plank position with your hands shoulder-width apart and body in a straight line
  • Brace your core and keep your hips level — do not let them rise or sag
  • Drive your right knee diagonally under your body toward your left elbow as fast as control allows
  • Quickly return the right foot to the start and immediately drive the left knee toward the right elbow
  • Continue alternating cross-body knee drives at a controlled-to-fast pace
  • Breathe steadily and maintain a rigid plank throughout the set
