About this exercise

Marching on the spot is a gentle, low-impact cardiovascular exercise performed by alternately lifting the knees while staying in place. It is ideal as a warm-up, a recovery drill between high-intensity intervals, or a light daily movement for those new to exercise or returning from injury.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and arms relaxed at your sides
  • Lift your right knee to approximately hip height while swinging your left arm forward
  • Lower the right foot back to the floor and immediately lift your left knee while swinging your right arm forward
  • Continue alternating legs in a controlled marching rhythm
  • Keep your core lightly engaged and your posture upright throughout
