About this exercise

The lying toe tap is a core exercise performed on your back where you lower your feet alternately toward the floor while keeping your legs raised, demanding constant tension in the abdominals. It effectively targets the lower abs while teaching proper spinal stabilization.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back on a mat with arms by your sides and palms flat on the floor
  • Raise both legs to a 90-degree angle at the hips, with knees bent at 90 degrees (tabletop position)
  • Brace your core and press your lower back firmly into the mat
  • Slowly lower one foot to tap the floor while keeping the other leg stationary
  • Return the lowered leg back to the starting position without losing core tension
  • Tap the floor with the opposite foot in the same manner
  • Continue alternating feet for the desired number of repetitions
