About this exercise

A supine stretch that targets the gluteal muscles and piriformis by crossing one ankle over the opposite knee and drawing both legs toward the chest. It is one of the most effective floor-based stretches for releasing hip tightness and lower back tension.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor
  • Cross your right ankle over your left thigh, just above the knee
  • Flex the right foot to protect the knee joint
  • Reach both hands around the back of your left thigh and gently pull it toward your chest
  • Hold the stretch for 20–30 seconds, feeling it deep in the right glute
  • Release slowly and repeat on the other side
