About this exercise

A bodyweight lower back exercise performed face down on the floor, where you simultaneously lift your chest and legs off the ground to hyperextend the spine. This movement targets the erector spinae, glutes, and hamstrings without any equipment.

How to Perform

  • Lie face down on the floor with your arms extended overhead or placed alongside your body
  • Keep your legs straight and feet together or hip-width apart
  • Simultaneously lift your chest, arms, and legs off the floor by contracting your lower back and glutes
  • Hold the elevated position for a moment, squeezing the glutes and lower back
  • Slowly lower your chest and legs back to the floor
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
