About this exercise

The Lying Floor Fly is a dumbbell chest fly performed while lying flat on the floor instead of a bench. The floor naturally limits the range of motion at the bottom, reducing shoulder strain while still effectively targeting the pectoral muscles through a wide arc.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat
  • Hold a dumbbell in each hand with arms extended above your chest, palms facing each other
  • With a slight bend in your elbows, lower the dumbbells out to the sides in a wide arc
  • Stop when your upper arms touch or nearly touch the floor
  • Squeeze your chest to bring the dumbbells back up along the same arc until they meet above your chest
  • Avoid locking out your elbows at the top
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
