Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Lying Cycle Punches.

EasyAbsObliques

About this exercise

A floor exercise combining a cycling bicycle-kick leg motion with alternating punches, simultaneously challenging the abs, obliques, and shoulders. The constant alternating movement keeps the core under tension while adding an upper-body conditioning component.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back with your legs extended and hands raised beside your head in a guard position
  • Lift your shoulders and legs slightly off the floor to engage the core
  • Draw your right knee toward your chest while simultaneously extending your left arm in a punch, and extend your right leg
  • Switch in a cycling motion: draw your left knee in while extending your right arm in a punch, and extend your left leg
  • Alternate sides continuously in a smooth, controlled rhythm
  • Keep your lower back pressed toward the floor and avoid pulling on your neck
  • Continue for the desired number of reps on each side
