About this exercise

A yoga-inspired deep stretch performed in a low lunge position with the front foot placed wide that opens the hips, groin, and hip flexors. Lizard Pose improves lower-body flexibility and hip mobility while also gently engaging the core for balance.

How to Perform

  • Begin in a high lunge with your right foot forward and left knee resting on the ground
  • Walk your right foot out to the right, wider than your right hand
  • Lower both forearms to the ground inside your right foot, or rest them on a block for support
  • Gently press your right knee outward with your right elbow to deepen the hip opening
  • Keep your back leg extended and your core lightly engaged
  • Hold the position, breathing deeply into the hip and groin
  • Release and repeat on the other side
