Lever Squat (plate loaded)

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Lever Squat (plate loaded).

MediumGlutesQuadriceps

About this exercise

The lever squat is performed on a plate-loaded hack squat-style machine that guides the body along a fixed angled path, eliminating balance demands and allowing full focus on leg drive. It primarily targets the quadriceps and glutes while placing less compressive stress on the spine compared to a free-weight squat. The machine's foot platform and back pad work together to support a safe, deep squatting position.

How to Perform

  • Load the desired weight plates onto the machine
  • Step onto the platform with feet at shoulder-width or slightly wider, toes angled outward
  • Position your back flat against the pad and release the safety handles
  • Brace your core and lower yourself by bending your knees and hips in a controlled descent
  • Descend until your thighs are parallel to the platform or slightly below
  • Drive through your heels and mid-foot to press back to the starting position
  • Re-engage the safety handles once the set is complete
