Machine Seated Torso Rotation

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Machine Seated Torso Rotation.

EasyObliques

About this exercise

The lever seated twist is a machine exercise that targets the obliques through rotational resistance, allowing the torso to rotate against a fixed load. Because the hips are stabilized by the seat, the movement isolates spinal rotation and the lateral abdominal muscles effectively. It is commonly used for oblique development and rotational core conditioning.

How to Perform

  • Sit in the rotary torso machine with your back against the pad and feet flat on the floor
  • Cross your arms over your chest or grip the handles as the machine requires
  • Brace your core and keep your hips and lower body still throughout
  • Exhale and rotate your torso to one side as far as the machine allows
  • Pause briefly and squeeze the obliques at the end of the range
  • Inhale and return to the centre position under control
  • Complete all reps to one side before switching, or alternate sides each rep as preferred
  • Keep the movement slow and deliberate — avoid using momentum to swing the weight
