About this exercise

The lever military press is a plate-loaded machine exercise that mimics the overhead barbell press, targeting the anterior deltoids and overall shoulder musculature. The fixed lever path reduces stabilizer demand compared to free weights, making it suitable for focused shoulder pressing.

How to Perform

  • Load the appropriate weight plates onto the machine and sit or stand at the press station
  • Grip the handles at shoulder width with your palms facing forward
  • Position the handles at shoulder height as your starting point, elbows bent at roughly 90 degrees
  • Press the handles straight overhead in a controlled arc until your arms are fully extended
  • Avoid locking out the elbows aggressively at the top
  • Slowly lower the weight back to shoulder height under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
