MediumMiddle back

About this exercise

The lever lateral pulldown is performed on a plate-loaded machine and targets the latissimus dorsi through a wide, guided pulling arc. The fixed lever arms provide consistent resistance throughout the range of motion, making it an effective isolation movement for the back. It is commonly associated with Hammer Strength-style plate-loaded equipment.

How to Perform

  • Load the appropriate weight plates onto both arms of the machine
  • Sit facing the machine and grip the handles with a wide overhand grip
  • Anchor yourself firmly in the seat with your feet flat on the floor
  • Pull the handles down and toward your upper chest, driving your elbows down and back
  • Squeeze your shoulder blades together at the bottom of the movement
  • Slowly allow your arms to extend back overhead under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
