About this exercise

The lever front pulldown is a plate-loaded machine exercise that targets the latissimus dorsi through a downward pulling motion performed to the front of the body. The lever arm provides consistent resistance throughout the range of motion, making it an effective alternative to cable lat pulldowns for building back width.

How to Perform

  • Adjust the seat and thigh pad so you are secure and the handles are within reach
  • Sit down and grip the handles with a wide overhand grip
  • Lean back slightly and depress your shoulder blades
  • Pull the handles down toward the upper chest by driving your elbows toward your hips
  • Squeeze your lats at the bottom of the movement
  • Slowly allow the handles to rise back to the starting position, fully extending your arms
