About this exercise

The lever deadlift is a plate-loaded machine variation of the conventional deadlift that guides the movement along a fixed arc, reducing spinal load while still effectively targeting the hamstrings, glutes, and lower back. It is an excellent option for building posterior chain strength with a more controlled range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Load the desired plates onto the lever machine and stand on the platform
  • Position your feet hip-width apart with the bar or handles at mid-shin level
  • Hinge at the hips and bend the knees, gripping the handles firmly
  • Brace your core and keep your chest up with a neutral spine
  • Drive through your heels, extending the hips and knees simultaneously to lift the weight
  • Stand tall at the top with hips fully extended, glutes squeezed
  • Hinge back at the hips and lower the weight under control to the starting position
