About this exercise

The Lever Alternating Pullover is a plate-loaded machine exercise that targets the lats through a wide arc of motion. Arms alternate in a pullover pattern — one arm sweeps from overhead to the hip while the other returns — allowing a greater stretch and sustained muscle tension throughout the set.

How to Perform

  • Load the machine with the appropriate plates and adjust the seat height
  • Sit with your back firmly against the pad and grasp both handles with a slight bend in the elbows
  • Pull one arm through a wide arc from the overhead position down toward your hip, engaging the lat
  • As that arm returns to the start, begin pulling the opposite arm through the same arc
  • Alternate arms in a smooth, controlled rhythm, avoiding momentum or jerking
  • Keep your core braced and your lower back in contact with the pad throughout
