About this exercise

A dynamic standing exercise where one leg is kicked forward and upward in a controlled arc, activating the hip flexors, quadriceps, and core while improving balance and lower-body mobility. Frequently used as a warm-up drill or in martial arts conditioning.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and arms relaxed at your sides
  • Shift your weight onto your left foot and find your balance
  • Swing your right leg forward and upward in a controlled arc, keeping the knee extended
  • Engage your core to maintain an upright torso and stable standing leg
  • Allow the leg to reach a comfortable height — do not sacrifice posture for height
  • Lower the leg smoothly and return to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch to the other leg
