About this exercise

Kneeling Finger Pulses are a hand and forearm mobility drill performed on all fours. With palms flat on the floor, you repeatedly lift and press the fingertips against the ground in a pulsing rhythm, activating and mobilizing the small muscles of the hand and the finger flexors of the forearm. The exercise is especially useful for climbers, gymnasts, and anyone recovering from hand or wrist fatigue.

How to Perform

  • Start on all fours with your palms flat on the floor and fingers spread, wrists under your shoulders
  • Press your palms firmly into the ground while keeping your arms straight
  • Slowly peel your fingertips off the floor, bending only at the finger joints
  • Press the fingertips back down into the floor with controlled force
  • Continue pulsing the fingertips up and down at a steady tempo for the desired number of reps
