Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Kettlebell Wrist Curl.

About this exercise

The kettlebell wrist curl is an isolation exercise that targets the flexor muscles of the forearm. With the forearms resting on a bench or thighs, the wrists curl upward against the resistance of the kettlebell, building grip strength and forearm size. The unique shape of the kettlebell handle provides a slightly different stimulus compared to a barbell or dumbbell.

How to Perform

  • Sit on a bench or chair and hold a kettlebell with a palms-up (supinated) grip
  • Rest your forearms on your thighs or on the edge of a bench so only your hands extend past the support
  • Allow your wrists to drop as low as comfortable, fully stretching the forearm flexors
  • Curl your wrists upward as high as possible, squeezing the forearm muscles at the top
  • Lower the kettlebell back down in a slow, controlled manner
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
