MediumTricepsQuadriceps

About this exercise

The kettlebell thruster combines a front squat and an overhead press into a single fluid movement, making it one of the most demanding full-body conditioning exercises. It develops lower-body strength, shoulder power, and cardiovascular endurance simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a kettlebell in each hand in the rack position at shoulder height
  • Brace your core and keep your chest tall as you descend into a full squat
  • Drive through your heels to stand up explosively, using the momentum to initiate the press
  • As you reach full hip extension, press the kettlebells overhead to full lockout
  • Lower the kettlebells back to the rack position as you simultaneously begin the next squat
  • Maintain a smooth, continuous rhythm between the squat and the press
  • Keep your elbows pointed forward in the rack and avoid excessive lower-back arch at the top
  • Complete the target number of reps with consistent depth on every squat

About the Kettlebell Thruster

The Kettlebell Thruster is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
