EasyObliques

About this exercise

The Kettlebell Side Bend is a standing oblique exercise where you hold a kettlebell in one hand and bend laterally to lower it toward the floor, then contract the oblique to return upright. It directly targets the lateral core muscles and can be performed one side at a time for focused oblique isolation.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright with feet hip-width apart, holding a kettlebell in your right hand at your side
  • Place your left hand on your hip or extend it overhead for balance
  • Keeping your back straight and hips square, slowly bend sideways to the right, lowering the kettlebell toward the floor
  • Feel the stretch in the left oblique at the bottom of the movement
  • Contract the right oblique to pull yourself back to a fully upright position
  • Do not lean forward or backward — move strictly in the lateral plane
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching the kettlebell to the other hand
  • Keep your core braced throughout and avoid using momentum
