Kettlebell Seated Press

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Kettlebell Seated Press.

About this exercise

The kettlebell seated press is a shoulder pressing movement performed from a seated position, which eliminates leg drive and forces the shoulders and triceps to do all the work. The seated position increases stability demands on the core and lower back.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on a bench or the floor with a kettlebell in each hand held at shoulder height in the rack position
  • Position the handles across your palm with the bells resting on the back of your forearms
  • Brace your core and keep your spine neutral
  • Press both kettlebells straight overhead until your arms are fully extended
  • Hold briefly at the top, keeping your rib cage down and avoiding excessive lower-back arch
  • Lower the kettlebells back to the rack position under control
  • Repeat for the target number of repetitions
