About this exercise

The kettlebell rotational deadlift is a hip-hinge exercise that adds a rotational twist to the traditional deadlift pattern. By placing the kettlebell to the side and rotating the torso to reach it, you challenge the hip extensors, glutes, and core stabilisers through a greater range of motion. It develops rotational strength and hip mobility simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart and a kettlebell placed just outside your right foot
  • Hinge at the hips, rotate your torso to the right, and reach down to grip the kettlebell with both hands
  • Keep your chest up, back flat, and a slight bend in both knees
  • Drive through your heels and extend your hips to stand up tall, allowing your torso to return to a neutral forward-facing position
  • At the top, squeeze your glutes and stand fully upright
  • Reverse the movement under control, rotating and hinging back to lower the kettlebell to the floor
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch to the other
