Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Kettlebell Low Fly.

MediumUpper chest

About this exercise

A kettlebell fly variation where the arms start from a low position and sweep upward in an arc, emphasising the upper chest. Performed on an incline bench or with arms beginning near the hips, the upward trajectory of the movement shifts the loading to the clavicular head of the pectorals.

How to Perform

  • Lie on an incline bench set to a low-to-moderate angle, holding a kettlebell in each hand with arms extended along the sides of the body at a low position
  • Turn your palms to face each other and maintain a slight bend in the elbows
  • Sweep both kettlebells upward and inward in a wide arc toward the centre above your upper chest
  • Squeeze the chest at the top of the arc when the kettlebells come together
  • Slowly lower the kettlebells back down along the same arc to the low starting position
  • Keep the elbow angle consistent and avoid converting the movement into a press
