About this exercise

The Kettlebell Lateral Lunge is a lower-body exercise that targets the inner thighs and quadriceps by stepping to the side while holding a kettlebell. The lateral plane of movement improves hip mobility and adductor strength that traditional forward/backward lunges do not fully address.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a kettlebell with both hands at chest height or hanging at arm's length
  • Keep your feet parallel and step one foot out wide to the side
  • Shift your weight onto the stepping leg, bending that knee and pushing the hips back while the opposite leg stays straight
  • Lower until your thigh is roughly parallel to the floor
  • Drive through the heel of the bent leg to push back to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch, or alternate sides each rep
