Kettlebell Incline Shrug

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Kettlebell Incline Shrug.

MediumTrapezius

About this exercise

The kettlebell incline shrug targets the upper trapezius muscles while you lie chest-down on an incline bench, which eliminates momentum and forces strict muscle isolation. Holding kettlebells at arm's length, you elevate your shoulders straight up toward your ears with a controlled squeeze at the top.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a moderate incline (around 30–45 degrees) and lie face down with your chest against the pad
  • Let your arms hang straight down, gripping a kettlebell in each hand with palms facing each other
  • Keeping your arms straight, shrug your shoulders up toward your ears as high as possible
  • Hold the contracted position briefly, squeezing your upper traps
  • Lower your shoulders in a controlled manner back to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
