Kettlebell Incline Row

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Kettlebell Incline Row.

About this exercise

The Kettlebell Incline Row is performed lying face-down on an incline bench, which supports the torso and eliminates lower-back involvement so the back muscles must do all the work. Rowing kettlebells from this chest-supported position provides a full range of motion and strong contraction in the mid-back and lats on each rep.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a 30–45 degree incline and lie face-down with your chest against the pad and legs supported, holding a kettlebell in each hand hanging beneath the bench
  • Begin with arms fully extended and shoulder blades relaxed
  • Row both kettlebells upward by driving your elbows back and squeezing your shoulder blades together
  • Pull until your elbows are at or slightly above torso height and your upper arms are roughly parallel to the floor
  • Hold the contraction at the top for a moment, then lower the kettlebells slowly back to the starting position
  • Keep your head in a neutral position and avoid shrugging the shoulders toward the ears
