About this exercise

The kettlebell hang clean is a power movement that starts from a hip-hinge hang position and ends with the kettlebell in the rack position at the shoulder. It develops explosive hip extension, total-body coordination, and power output while training the pulling mechanics used in Olympic-style lifting.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart and hold the kettlebell in front of your hips with a loose grip
  • Hinge at the hips and let the kettlebell swing back slightly between your legs
  • Drive your hips forward explosively, pulling the kettlebell upward by bending your elbow
  • Guide the kettlebell into the rack position at shoulder height, catching it softly on your forearm
  • Stand tall at the top, then lower the kettlebell back to the hang position under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps, then switch sides
