About this exercise

The Kettlebell Gorilla Row is a bilateral alternating row performed with two kettlebells on the floor. Hinging at the hips and alternating rows while stabilizing the opposing bell on the ground develops unilateral back strength, grip, and anti-rotation core control.

How to Perform

  • Place two kettlebells on the floor slightly wider than shoulder width and hinge forward at the hips until your torso is roughly parallel to the floor
  • Grip both kettlebell handles with a neutral grip, knees slightly bent
  • Brace your core and keep your back flat throughout the movement
  • Row the right kettlebell up toward your hip, keeping your elbow close to your body, while the left bell remains on the floor as a balance point
  • Lower the right kettlebell back to the floor with control
  • Immediately row the left kettlebell up toward your left hip in the same manner
  • Continue alternating sides for the desired number of repetitions
