About this exercise

A hip-hinge exercise performed with a kettlebell held at the chest or resting behind the neck, targeting the hamstrings and glutes while strengthening the lower back. The controlled forward lean with a neutral spine builds posterior chain strength and flexibility.

How to Perform

  • Hold a kettlebell at your chest with both hands, or rest it behind your neck across your shoulders
  • Stand with your feet hip-width apart and a slight bend in your knees
  • Brace your core and maintain a neutral spine throughout the movement
  • Hinge forward at the hips, pushing your hips back as you lean your torso toward the floor
  • Lower until you feel a strong stretch in your hamstrings or your torso is roughly parallel to the floor
  • Drive your hips forward to return to the upright starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
