About this exercise

The kettlebell front squat is a compound lower-body movement where one or two kettlebells are held at chest height in the rack position while performing a deep squat. Keeping the weight in front challenges your core and upper back to stay upright, producing greater quad activation than a back-loaded squat.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and hold one or two kettlebells in the rack position at chest height, elbows pointing forward
  • Brace your core, keep your chest tall, and push your knees out in line with your toes
  • Descend into a squat until your thighs are at least parallel to the floor
  • Drive through your heels to stand back up to the starting position
  • Keep the kettlebells stable in the rack position throughout the entire movement
