Kettlebell Fly

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Kettlebell Fly.

MediumMiddle chest

About this exercise

A chest fly exercise performed with kettlebells on a flat bench, mimicking the wide arc of a standard dumbbell fly. The kettlebell's offset handle position creates a unique loading angle that increases the stretch at the bottom of the movement, making it an effective pectoral isolation exercise.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on a horizontal bench holding a kettlebell in each hand, arms extended above your chest with palms facing each other
  • Maintain a slight bend in your elbows to protect the joints throughout the movement
  • Lower both kettlebells out to the sides in a wide arc, feeling a deep stretch across the chest
  • Stop when your elbows reach roughly the height of the bench or a comfortable end range
  • Reverse the arc by squeezing the chest and bringing the kettlebells back together above the sternum
  • Keep the elbow angle consistent throughout — do not turn this into a press
