About this exercise

A trapezius isolation exercise performed lying face-down on a decline bench while holding kettlebells. The decline angle alters the line of pull on the trapezius compared to a standard standing shrug, engaging the mid and lower trap fibers more effectively.

How to Perform

  • Set a bench to a moderate decline angle and lie face-down with your chest on the pad, legs secured
  • Hold a kettlebell in each hand with arms hanging straight down toward the floor
  • Keep your arms straight and shrug both shoulders directly upward toward your ears simultaneously
  • Squeeze the trapezius at the top of the movement and hold briefly
  • Lower the kettlebells back to the starting position in a controlled manner
  • Repeat for the target number of repetitions
