About this exercise

A squat variation where you hold a kettlebell at chest height and deliberately sit back onto a box before standing again. The box provides a consistent depth target and teaches proper hip-hinge mechanics while building lower-body strength.

How to Perform

  • Place a sturdy box or step behind you and stand in front of it with feet shoulder-width apart
  • Hold a kettlebell at chest height with both hands in a goblet grip
  • Push your hips back and bend your knees, descending in a controlled manner
  • Lower yourself until you lightly sit on the box, maintaining tension in your legs
  • Pause briefly on the box without fully relaxing your muscles
  • Drive through your heels to stand back up to the starting position
  • Keep your chest tall and knees tracking over your toes throughout
