About this exercise

The kettlebell alternating press is a standing overhead pressing exercise where you press one kettlebell at a time in an alternating fashion. It develops shoulder strength and stability while engaging the core to resist the asymmetric loading on each side.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart holding a kettlebell in each hand at shoulder height in the rack position
  • Brace your core and keep a neutral spine throughout the movement
  • Press one kettlebell straight overhead until your arm is fully extended
  • Lower it back to the rack position in a controlled manner
  • As the first kettlebell descends, begin pressing the other arm upward
  • Continue alternating arms in a smooth, controlled rhythm
  • Keep your elbow pointed slightly forward at the top and avoid flaring the ribs
