About this exercise

The jump squat is a plyometric exercise that combines a bodyweight squat with an explosive vertical jump. It builds lower-body power, improves athletic performance, and elevates the heart rate, making it effective for both strength and conditioning.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and toes pointed slightly outward
  • Lower into a squat by pushing your hips back and bending your knees until your thighs are parallel to the floor
  • Swing your arms back as you descend to build momentum
  • Drive explosively through your heels and swing your arms upward to launch off the ground
  • Extend fully through your hips, knees, and ankles at the top
  • Land softly with bent knees, absorbing impact through your legs
  • Immediately lower back into the squat for the next repetition
