About this exercise

The jump box over is an explosive plyometric exercise where you jump laterally over a plyo box from one side to the other in continuous repetitions. It develops lower-body power, coordination, and reactive strength as you repeatedly clear the box and absorb landings. The continuous back-and-forth effort also provides a cardiovascular conditioning stimulus.

How to Perform

  • Stand on one side of a plyo box with feet hip-width apart and arms at your sides
  • Bend your knees slightly and swing your arms back to load for the jump
  • Explosively push through both feet and swing your arms forward to jump up and laterally over the box
  • Clear the top of the box fully and land softly on the opposite side, absorbing the impact by bending your knees on contact
  • Immediately load for the next jump without fully stopping
  • Reverse direction and jump back over the box to the starting side
  • Maintain an upright torso and controlled, soft landings throughout
