About this exercise

A foundational gymnastic core exercise where you maintain a hollow body position — lower back pressed to the floor, arms overhead, legs raised — and rock back and forth in a controlled, smooth arc. It builds deep abdominal strength and full-body tension required for many gymnastic skills.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with your legs straight and arms extended overhead
  • Press your lower back firmly into the floor and draw your navel toward your spine
  • Lift your arms, head, shoulders, and legs simultaneously off the floor to form a banana-shaped hollow position
  • Begin rocking forward (toward your feet) and backward (toward your head) in a smooth, controlled arc
  • Keep the hollow shape rigid throughout — do not let your lower back lift away from the floor at the bottom of each rock
  • Continue rocking for the desired number of repetitions
