About this exercise

The holding squat is an isometric exercise where you lower into a squat position and hold it for a set duration. It builds significant quad and glute endurance and strength without any movement, making it an excellent exercise for developing lower body stability and muscular endurance.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, toes slightly turned out
  • Brace your core and keep your chest upright
  • Lower yourself into a squat until your thighs are parallel to the floor
  • Hold this position with your weight evenly distributed through both feet
  • Keep your knees tracking over your toes and your back straight throughout the hold
  • After the hold duration, press through your heels to return to standing

The Squat Hold is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
